Synopsis

Trapped in the underground theater world of 1890s New Orleans, Hale Ferrer has only one goal: escape. But not without Teeny, the orphan-girl she rescued from the streets and promised to protect.

Freddie Lovel, Hale's wealthy Parisian suitor, seems to be the easy solution. If only his touch could arouse her interest like Beau's, the penniless stagehand who captures her heart.
Denying her fears, Hale is poised to choose love until an evil lurking in their cabaret-home launches a chain of events that could cost her everything.

Review

Leigh is the author of The Truth about Faking, which I absolutely loved, so when she asked me to review this book I was super excited! This book did not let me down. It was absolutely amazing! Leigh is such a talented writer. Her words make you feel like you are right there in the story, her characters are so believable. If you ever get a chance to read one of her books, do it! You will not be disappointed.

I have never read a book with two love interest where I couldn't choose just one. Usually I immediately fall for one and the other I can't stand. I do have to say, I rooted for Beau a little more than Freddie only because he tried so hard to get Hale to choose him. He got a second job and found a house, he knew Hale's real story. As for Freddie, he has money and a house a high paying job. But Hale has to act around him, she can't be herself. Freddie loves Hale so much, I thought there had to be more too it.

This is a gripping story of a girl who has to grow up too fast. Only seventeen and taking care of twelve year old Teeny, an orphan-girl she rescued from the streets and promised to protect. Torn between duty and her true love. I understand why she does some of the things she has to do. My heart broke for her and the things she had to go through. You have to read this story!

Synopsis

What if you lost your true soul mate, the one person in life you were meant to be with? Would your love ever truly die? Not if you’re Noah Hartman, who refuses to let go of Robin after she inexplicably abandons their love and disappears from his life seemingly forever, her hidden secret yet to be discovered.

And when you finally accept your fate and do your best to move on with your life, what do you say when the unthinkable happens: your true love Robin reappears as your wedding ceremony to another woman is about to commence, looks deep into your soul with her loving, tear-filled eyes, and tells you the one thing you’ve desperately longed to hear for all of these years?

But the ending to this heart-wrenching love story has yet to be written, as Noah, old and sick in a hospital bed, tells his story of love and loss to Josh, a wise orderly at Mount Sinai Hospital. As his family members arrive to bid him goodbye, Noah discovers a far greater truth about his past, present, and future. Things are definitely not as they appear as the pieces of a shattered love are put back together in the remarkable final chapter of Noah’s life.

Review

Wow! I definitely did not expect the book to end that way. It caught me off guard and I even teared up a little bit. It made the whole book that much more heart wrenching.

In the beginning it was a little confusing for me. The way it goes back and forth from past to present, sometimes with no warning. I had to back track and reread a couple times to make sure I didn't miss anything.

I understand the whole you love who you love thing but if I was Noah, and Robin treated me like that I would kick her to the curb. So many times I wanted to reach into the book and slap her. Then other times my heart broke for her because of all she went through.

Over all this is a great Romance. Any fan of Nicholas sparks will absolutely adore Sebastian Cole.

Always a Hero

Title: Always A Hero
Author: Valerie Franklin
Genre: Romance
Format: eBook,
Source: Author, Requested Review

Synopsis

Terror comes in many forms…

For Rebecca it began before her husband was deployed to Iraq. In her misery, she wanted him to hurt as much as she was hurting, so she hurled hateful words that once said, could not be unsaid. In the four months since she stood with their small son, Sean, at her side on the blistering tarmac, a fake smile pasted on her lips and waved until the plane was a tiny speck in the sky, she had spent hours trying to find a way to apologize, but she found it too hard to apologize in a letter.

She wished that she could have rewound the clock and that she had thought before blurting out that she wanted a separation. It was only after shouting the words and seeing her husband’s reaction that she understood just how much words can wound.

For Paul, the words cut deeper into his heart than any bullet. He had to go where he was assigned; the Army didn’t wait for any man. In his mind he understood that it was stress speaking and not his wife’s heart, but knowing that he had to go with the words hanging between them cut him to ribbons and made his heart bleed.

At first, he would scan each letter in fear that he would see the dreaded words that she had filed for divorce, but that letter never came. Contrastingly, his wife’s letters were full of everyday events that he was missing, pictures of Sean, and information about his parents. None of the letters had contained an apology, but Rebecca was writing each day, which gave him hope for the future.

Until Fate intervened tearing both of their worlds apart.

Her husband, her lover, the father of their children was reported as Missing In Action in Iraq, and all Rebecca wanted to do was crawl into a hole and pray for his safe return…but it was a luxury she was being denied. With Paul already missing, now their home, their possessions, her sense of security…everything they had built together was systematically being ripped from her. Her safety net was gone leaving her isolated and vulnerable…

Review

Mrs. Franklin wastes no time getting to the good stuff. You start out with a few details, just to get you sucked in, then she lays it on you. Good luck trying to put the book down after that.

I don't even want to imagine what it would be like to have a loved one in the military. I have a hard enough time with my husband leaving on business trips. That's two weeks at most. But there are people that go through it all the time. And reading this book has shone a whole new light on what these people go through.

The way Valerie describes the feelings and surroundings is wonderful. You get caught up in the story, you feel what the characters are going through, like you can relate to them.

This book is absolutely amazing. If you have not read it, I suggest you do that now. You will not be disappointed.

Audiobook Review: The Skin Map

Title: The Skin Map
Series: Bright Empires Series #1
Author: Stephen R. Lawhead
Narrator: Simon Bubb
Genre: Fantasy
Format: Compact Disc , 9 discs
Listening Length: 11 hours and 24 minutes
Publisher: Thomas Nelson, Inc.
Source: Thomas Nelson, Book Sneeze

Synopsis

It is the ultimate quest for the ultimate treasure. Chasing a map tattooed on human skin. Across an omniverse of intereing realities. To unravel the future of the future.
Kit Livingston's great-grandfather appears to him in a deserted alley during a tumultuous storm. He reveals an unbelievable story: that the ley lines throughout Britain are not merely the stuff of legend or the weekend hobby of deluded cranks, but pathways to other worlds. To those who know how to use them, they grant the ability to travel the multi-layered universe of which we ordinarily inhabit only a tiny part.
One explorer knew more than most. Braving every danger, he toured both time and space on voyages of heroic discovery. Ever on his guard, and fearful of becoming lost in the cosmos, he developed an intricate code--a roadmap of symbols--that he tattooed onto his own body. This Skin Map has since been lost in time. Now the race is on to recover all the pieces and discover its secrets.
But the Skin Map itself is not the ultimate goal. It is merely the beginning of a vast and marvelous quest for a prize beyond imagining.
The Bright Empires series—from acclaimed author Stephen Lawhead—is a unique blending of epic treasure hunt, ancient history, alternate realities, cutting-edge physics, philosophy, and mystery. The result is a page-turning, fantastical adventure like no other.

Review

This is my very first Audiobook. I have talked to a lot of people who love them, but they are not for me. Maybe if I had the book to read along to it would be better. I find myself think about other things while listening then I don't know what's going on. Not because it's boring, I thought the narrator was very good. I just don't stay focused on the story.

As for the story, I absolutely love this book! The story is great! An amazing adventure about a boy named Kit, in search for a map tattooed to the skin. An adventure filled with ancient history, philosophy, and mystery. But it's not any ordinary map, it reveals a portal between worlds. Imagine having the ability to go back in time and change a few minor details to make your present better.

Over all I thought this was a very good story. It kept me on the edge of my seat, and it left me wanting more.

One who can't have her dreaming of a second chance at love. Somehow, Tucker ropes her heart and fills it with hope. Hope that this country girl and her son can lasso the roaming bronc rider into their family forever.

Review

This is a very clean romance. This story is pretty cute. Although there were a few things I didn't like. There were a few parts in the book when I couldn't figure out who was talking. It was like they moved on to something else and I didn't know about it. Another thing that got me was all the back and forth. I love you, I hate you, you haven't really changed, but maybe you have, either way it won't work. The end kind of took me by surprise. Usually you get a chapter or two of a happily ever after, but in this one you get a couple pages. Maybe because its a part of a series, and you'll get to hear about them later? I don't know.

The main thing I loved about this book was the love Sierra had for her son. Every action she even though about doing, ran through a process in her, making sure it wasn't going to hurt owen in any way. Which I can relate to. My son comes before any thing else.

Overall this was a good book. I think it can be read as a stand alone book, but you would get more out of the story if you started at the beginning of the series.

Synopsis

Leigh has a story to tell and despite the absurdity of it, it has to be told before it's forgotten forever.

You see Leigh used to be a Cupid.
A very silly, naive and regretfully bitter Cupid.
And those are traits a Cupid shouldn’t technically possess.
When Leigh’s murderer is the next assignment, revenge stands in the way of helping Natalie McIntyre find her perfect partner…
That is until the appearance of the blue spark.

Warning: Contains strong language.

Review

This was a pretty cute story. When reading this is sounds like someone is telling the story as it happens. There's not a lot of detail, just whats happening at the current time. This is a very original story about a girl who dies, gets sent to heaven, only to find she has to work. Her Guidance Counselor pops in, gives her a copy of Jobs for the dead: Heaven Edition.

So basically, once you die you can be either an Angel, Reaper, or Cupid. Once you fulfill your job you are upgraded to Saint. Leigh tries out all her options, Cupid seems to fit best. It's been 3 years since she took the job and she get a task of pairing Natalie McIntyre with her soul-mate. Natalie hates people. She hates life. But the further Leigh digs into her past she figures out it was Natalie that killed her all those years ago. Then Leigh sees the spark. The blue spark happens between soul mates.

I don't want to give away too many details. pretty much everything its connected to something else in the story, and I don't want to give away the ending. Over all this is a pretty cute story!

Review

It took me a couple chapters to actually get into this story. But after I got the hang of the characters and what has happening in the story I got attached to them. When I would have to put the book down I often found myself wondering what would happen next in the book. I liked how the two stories wove into one. Lucy was on a mission and the Battle Brothers were trying to escape the police. Then they decide to take (another) hostage, and to their surprise Lucy can hold her own. I was really excited Lucy could handle herself. You find most often the girl just accepts her fate.

Through most of the book I was hoping Lucy would just kill off Mallory. He was so annoying to me. I understand he wasn't all there but every time things cooled down he killed another person. In the end I'm glad she didn't, as he proved to be useful..

I really liked the romance that blossomed between Lucy and Edgar. It wasn't your full on, "Oh, I love you. Nothing mattered before you." but you could tell they made each other comfortable.

Overall I really liked this book. The only thing that bothered me was a few points in the story where it was difficult understanding which character was talking. But other than that it was a very good read. Lots of twists and things to keep you interested!

Review

Wow! Let me first say I have been in a kind of reading funk.. I think its in big part to me not being home, but nothing was grabbing my attention. I picked up this book, and it blew me away. It captured me from the beginning and didn't let me go until I finished. Every time I set this book down i would think about the characters and what they were going through and wondering what was going to happen next until I just gave up. I told the dishes they would have to wait, I had to finish this book. Christy did a fabulous job with her writing style. Every scene is believable, she did an amazing job on detail. Every thing played out like a movie in my head.

I love the story. There is more than one story, more than one happily ever after, and it made me feel good inside. I know this is only a book but just thinking what these characters went through and how they end up.. you have to read this book.

Synopsis

Boundaries. The key to how corporate lawyer Alexandra Knight manages her busy life. However, lately all her precisely drawn lines are getting blurred. Blame it on her out-of-control biological clock that is ignoring her single status…and on Ethan Stone.
Because her sexy, no-strings colleague has posed an outrageous solution to her dilemma—he'll be her baby daddy. This from the guy who avoids all commitment? Okay, so they're attracted to each other. Really, really attracted. But crossing the line from coworker to co-parent with Ethan could ruin Alex for all other men. After all, when you've had the best…

Review

I thought this was a very cute book. The whole time reading, you're hoping with all your might that they end up together. We can tell from the beginning how much they like each other, but both have been hurt so bad it's hard for them to open up and love again.

I loved the relation ship between Alex and Ethan. I think a story is really good when my moods would change with what ever mood the characters were in.

Alex still believes in Happily-Ever-After, but her time is running out. All she wants is a family that loves her as much as she loves them. Her time is ticking away. She has almost reached the point in time where she can no longer have babies so she decides to find a donor.

In steps Ethan, the charming, handsome playboy who's afraid of commitment. Alex and Ethan have been friends for a while, but that's it.

When Ethan finds out Alex is looking for sperm donors, he gets upset. He knows Alex doesn't really want to have a child that way, and he gets an idea.

Ethan wants to be her sperm donor. Alex is as shocked as she is happy. Could she get her happily ever after all?

Synopsis

Emma Benson's view of life was crafted as a child by the death of her brother, the abandonment by her father and later, the man she trusted she would marry. A teacher by training, she forgoes her chosen path to save the Wisconsin farm she calls home from financial ruin.
A tornado threatens damage, but David Schlosser- back in town after years in New York writing best-selling novels—could ruin her neatly tended life. He's looking for the charms of the small town he once rejected and finds more than he bargained for. He risks everything to get what he wants.
The storms of life throw Emma and David together and into the world of a criminal determined to ruin their plans by any means necessary. Robbery and near death connect Emma and David to their nemesis and during the throes of securing life and limb they make every effort to resist falling for one another.

Review

This is a very cute story, although Emma did rub me the wrong way to start with. Her attitude made me want to smack her a couple times. But the more I thought about it the more I realized that something bad had to have happened to her to make her act that way.We later find out her brother died as a child, and her father abandoned the family.  So she has some trust issues, especially when it comes to men.

When we meet David, he is kind of a mystery. He has feelings for Emma from the start, which confuse me. Why would anyone want to put up with someone who's always mean? But he pursues her. Which I think scares her a little bit.

I thought this was going to be a simple mystery but the twist at the end just makes the story all the better! I don't want to give anything away, but this is a very good, clean Romance/ Mystery.

Only Brenna Stewart, the woman he'd loved and lost, can set him free—but the secret she harbors might lead them down the most dangerous path of all…

Review

Even though this is a Novella, Laurie got everything packed in here. At only 57 pages, I didn't feel rushed. I thought it went at a even pace.

I thought this was a good addition to the Sweetblood Series. You get to see a little further into the lives of other vampires in the community and how they struggle to stay away from the Sweet, even though it may be tempting.

This was a very good short story. I think anyone who likes the Sweetblood Series will like this novella.

And the only thing that guarantees her safety, going back and facing her past, will most likely get her killed. Jessie Conners goes against everything he knows in a struggle to save the love of his life. Suspense, mystery, and romance await readers of Keeping Grace Alive.

Review

This was such a cute story. I instantly fell in love with the characters. There was never a dull moment reading this book. I love that Jessie is this big bad hit man, and he falls deeply in love with this fragile woman and completely submits himself to her. He's not ashamed to tell her that he has loved her from the moment he saw her, and gives her a chance to see if she feels the same. It makes you believe in love at first sight.

I love the 'brothers'. I was laughing out loud at Bubba. (Imagine a huge, 6 foot plus black guy crying during Hallmark commercials!) He's nothing more than a big teddy bear. I hope we get to see more of him. I hope to see more of all the brothers.

This isn't your usual romance book. There are many similarities, but it's so different. All I can say is you should deffinately add this book to your TBR pile!

I can't wait to read book two. I think I have just found a new favorite Author!

Since Sam Merlotte is now known to be two-natured, suspicion falls immediately on the anti-shifters in the area. Sookie suspects otherwise, but her attention is divided when she realizes that her lover Eric Northman and his "child" Pam are plotting to kill the vampire who is now their master. Gradually, Sookie is drawn into the plot-which is much more complicated than she knows...

Review

I found this book seriously lacking. It seemed like this was just restating what has happened in the past two books. Eric's preoccupied, Jannalynn is vicious, Tara's pregnant, Claude is an ass.The huge fight at the end just didn't do it for me. That's usually the part I cant wait for. I feel like there used to be more mystery. I figured there would be more conflict with Sandra Pelt. There would be so  much action, it would build up to the end and throw it in your face and it left you happy that you tagged along for the ride. Maybe I need to take a break from reading. As much as I would hate it. It seems like reading is a chore now. the books don't grad me like they used to. Has anyone else ever felt this way? I don't know whats happening to me. It's taking me forever to read some of the books I used to love. Does anyone else feel this way? Are the authors dragging out the books with nothing to write? With so much working against them, can love prove stronger than the birthright and the biology that separates them?

Review

Let me start out by saying J.R. Ward is my favorite author. I completely fell in love with the Brothers. So much that I felt depressed when I finished the newest book. When the release date came around I knew I had to rush out and buy it. I didn't and it was killing me. I was at the library a week ago, browsing through the 'New Books' shelf and I spotted it! I was so excited, I almost did a happy dance right there in the middle of the floor. I couldn't wait to get it home and start reading. I get home put some cartoons on for my son and dive into reading. I don't know what was so different about this book but I just couldn't get into a rhythm. I hate to say this but I didn't like this book. To me it seemed like J.R. was trying to hard to be 'Gangsta' in this one. I think there was too much going on.
My first complaint is Vishous,  Maybe we didn't get to know him very good in his book but I thought he was very different in Lover Unleashed. He just didn't seem like himself. I don't know. Everything was just off for me. It took me 8 days to read this book, which is unusual for me. Usually I can knock out a Brotherhood book in two days.

Did anyone else fell this way?

After barely surviving his own father's desertion, Jake knew he couldn't walk away from his responsibilities. Marriage seemed the only solution. Yet Heather wouldn't settle for simple sweet talk and seduction. If Jake wanted a real family, he'd have to saddle up for the long ride.

Review

This was a very cute story.. Kinda cheesy but cute. Jake has just learned that he has a grandmother that loves to play match maker. Jake and Heather had met at an auction over a year ago, and ever since he hasn't been able to get her out of his head. He never got her last name and didn't know where she lived. There was no way to find her.

As the new owner of Hickory Hills thoroughbred farm, he introduces himself to the farm manager only to discover it's Heather. Not only does he find Heather, he learns they have a 6 month daughter together.

Heather has gotten through the last year telling herself how much she hates Jake, and how big of a jerk he is. She knows she can't let herself get attached to him but her heart has different plans.

This is a very cute story about Jake trying his hardest to show heather that he is a changed man and he's ready to start a family.

I did some research, this is a series, and I started at the very last book.

Synopsis

“Evil is a completely different creature, Mac. Evil is bad that believes it’s good.”

MacKayla Lane was just a child when she and her sister, Alina, were given up for adoption and banished from Ireland forever.

Twenty years later, Alina is dead and Mac has returned to the country that expelled them to hunt her sister’s murderer. But after discovering that she descends from a bloodline both gifted and cursed, Mac is plunged into a secret history: an ancient conflict between humans and immortals who have lived concealed among us for thousands of years.

What follows is a shocking chain of events with devastating consequences, and now Mac struggles to cope with grief while continuing her mission to acquire and control the Sinsar Dubh—a book of dark, forbidden magic scribed by the mythical Unseelie King, containing the power to create and destroy worlds.

In an epic battle between humans and Fae, the hunter becomes the hunted when the Sinsar Dubh turns on Mac and begins mowing a deadly path through those she loves.
Who can she turn to? Who can she trust? Who is the woman haunting her dreams? More important, who is Mac herself and what is the destiny she glimpses in the black and crimson designs of an ancient tarot card?

From the luxury of the Lord Master’s penthouse to the sordid depths of an Unseelie nightclub, from the erotic bed of her lover to the terrifying bed of the Unseelie King, Mac’s journey will force her to face the truth of her exile, and to make a choice that will either save the world . . . or destroy it.

Review

It broke my heart when Mac revealed that she had killed Barrons. I was so mad that Ryodan put it into her head to do it. I almost stopped reading right there. The love hate relationship between Mac and Barrons is the main reason I love this series so much. I have been hoping  that they would have a Happily Ever After since the day they met. There was just something about him that I liked. He has a very hard shell but if you can make it to the center you will always be there.
Mack kept saying she felt bipolar, that's exactly how I felt. Every time I thought I had everything figured out, it would change. I don't want to give away to many details for those of that haven't read the book yet, so just know if you like the previous Fever books you will not be disappointed.
I was so happy When Barrons called Mac out and told her he was tired of waiting. Shoot, I was tired of waiting.
This was such an amazing journey. Seeing Mac 1.0 grow into Mac 5.0, we wouldn't have it any other way. It made me sad that this was the end, but in its own way it was perfect. Hopefully we will see more of the characters in the books to come. Thank you so much, KMM, for taking us on this journey with you. I hope there are many more to come!

Review

I love this book! I absolutely fell in love with Dom and Mackenzie. I love the love they have for each other. Even though Dom knew he should have left her alone, he also knew she was his soul mate and they needed each other. I love how he goes to extraordinary lengths to protect her and keep her safe. Its not everyday you find a book or series that pulls you in and keeps you there. This book probably wont be for everyone but I can guarantee you that I will be reading everything Laurie London writes. I'm excited for  Embraced by Blood. I'm curious about Alfonzo, I wonder if Dom will ever forgive him. So many questions. If you like J.R. Ward or Lara Adrian you will love this book!
